Jayson Wells has traveled the world and inspired youth globally with his personal mission to develop extraordinary winners.
Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, Jayson never dreamed he would play professionally in 12 different countries. Despite having a successful collegiate basketball career at Indiana State University, Jayson struggled early on, often having to sit on the bench behind more experienced players. These early struggles tested Jayson’s commitment to his goals and ignited a passion within him to maximize his potential. His maturity, combined with a tenacity to develop as a player opened a world of opportunities.
In 2011, Jayson retired from professional ball and shifted his focus from playing to teaching the game. He teamed up with Nike to facilitate various skills academies throughout the country. Jayson has worked with Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Kyrie Irving at their Elite Basketball camps.
With the determination to reach more youth globally, Jayson founded the Shooting Starz Academy, a youth development organization that provides character building in addition to athletics.
Jayson officially partnered with PGC Basketball in the summer of 2016, but has been a part of the PGC family since 2013.
Most recently, Jayson relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on the title of Head of Skill Development for the Larry Hughes Basketball Academy. He is tasked with the on and off court development of more than 300 athletes.
Jayson uses his personal experience on and off the court to teach the core values of life. He attributes his positive mindset to the lessons he learned from his father who taught him work ethic, attitude and discipline. Jayson regularly gives presentations to schools, youth groups, faith based organizations and corporations teaching them how to win “Beyond The Game.” His presentations challenge listeners to determine their “purpose” and activate their legacy through “significance.”
