Availability Requirements
The following is a summary of the availability requirements for a PGC Director position:
- Available to direct multiple 5-day, 4-night PGC courses in the summer and/or weekend courses through the year.
- Available to attend our 2-day pre-summer Director training and 3-day Snaps Leadership Conference in early June.
- Available to participate in pre-summer Director training conference calls.
Job Description
The following is a brief summary of a PGC Director’s key accountabilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight to every aspect of a 5-day PGC course, including being responsible for the overall experience for athletes and Observing Coaches, and teaching PGC’s course curriculum in the daily classroom sessions (2-3 hours), film sessions (1 hour), and court sessions (6-7 hours).
- Model every aspect of SCHAPE and uphold and reinforce each aspect of PGC’s culture.
- Utilize PGC’s teaching methodology, best practices, and unique vocabulary in every session.
- Learn and be able to effectively communicate the “why”, the “what” and the “how” for everything we do and teach.
- Lead daily staff meetings, manage the entire staff (including Instructors, Site Coordinators, and volunteers), and provide timely coaching, support, and feedback.
- Manage situations that arise during a session that get escalated to you.
- Learn the names of every participating athlete and Observing Coach and make an individual connection with as many athletes, coaches, and staff members as possible.
- Provide leadership at check-in and check-out on an ‘as needed’ basis.
- Interact with parents at check-in and check-out and lead the Parent Meeting on the opening day of each session.
- Correspond with athletes, parents, and coaches who reach out to you through the year (Note: Providing your contact information at the end of a session is optional).

- Ability to continually be professional in dealing with athletes, parents, coaches, PGC staff & conference services staff.

- Ability to source actions and attitudes from a desire to serve others.
- Ability to connect with male and female athletes, coaches, and staff, and establish rapport and immediate credibility.
- Ability to embody integrity and character, and master the habits and attitudes we teach to athletes.
- Ability to convey an authenticity to the PGC experience.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, solve problems, and adjust quickly to changing situations.
- Ability to provide leadership and coaching to PGC Instructors and volunteers.
- Ability to follow-through, strong attention to detail, and effective time-management.
- Ability to go above and beyond expectations without recognition or reward.
- Dependable, trustworthy, punctual, and organized.
- Ability to model an exemplary lifestyle, as demonstrated through successful relationships, health and fitness, and balanced priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years coaching or playing at a post-secondary, national, or professional level.
- Superior knowledge of the technical and tactical aspects of basketball.
- Proven ability to provide athletes with skill acquisition, technical and tactical instruction, and physical, mental and emotional development
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization is an asset, but not required.
- A minimum of 3 years directing camps and speaking to large groups.
- Experience with PGC, having attended as an athlete or Observing Coach, or having been a staff member at sessions.
- Having read all the books written by Dick DeVenzio.
