Carlos Nelson (AKA Coach Nelly), a former high school athlete and U.S. Marine, has been coaching basketball since 1996. He has worked with both boys and girls at the elementary, middle school, high school and college level.
Since moving his family to Cedar Rapids, IA, from Atlanta, GA, in 2001, Coach Nelly has coached basketball at several high schools in the Metro and surrounding areas. Each of those teams has qualified for state playoff berths. He has coached three NAIA All-American basketball players and two track & field all-Americans, one at the college level and one at the high school level. Coach Nelly also has had ties to the AAU grassroots basketball community since 1998.
For the last seven seasons, he has coached college basketball at Mount Mercy University.
