I have applied, now what?

Your application will be reviewed by the Staffing Team within 2 weeks. If you are selected to move forward, you will receive an invite via email to schedule an interview.

I interviewed, now what?

The Staffing Team has reached out to your reference checks at this time. Please keep an eye on your email within the next two weeks.

What if I don't have any references?

If you do not have previous employers to list as a reference, consider the following options for references:
– Teachers or Professors
– Internship Supervisors
– Coaches or Mentors
– Volunteer Coordinators
– Family friends or Neighbors.

Make sure to ask for permission before listing anyone as a reference and inform them about the job you’re applying for! PGC does check references for every potential employee.

I have been approved to work, now what?

Congratulations! You should have received your approval email which includes the Summer Availability link.

Please submit your official availability to receive your proposed schedule. Only select the sessions that you are able to travel to on your own.

How do I know where I can work?

After your approval to work, the Staffing Team will send you an availability form. You can request to work as many sessions as you can get yourself to. We prefer you request at least 4 camps. Selection to work is dependent on camp registration; the Staffing Team will select and assign Instructors based on need. When an Instructor is not assigned to a requested camp, they will be placed on the waitlist.

Is there any incentive to work more camps?

Basket Instructors who work 2 or more sessions will receive an end-of-summer bonus of $100 for every week worked, predicated on no cancellations, or PGC choosing not to renew your contract, from the time sessions are confirmed with the Staffing Team.

I submitted my availability, now what?

The Staffing Team will review your availability and send you a proposed schedule within the next two weeks.

What is a proposed schedule?

Scheduling is based on several factors including athlete registration numbers, athlete gender, and camp location. Based on these factors and your location relative to camps, the Staffing Team will propose you a schedule to confirm.

Schedule Statuses: Tentative, Waitlist, Confirmed

Tentative – A spot is open for you, please confirm to secure your spot!
Waitlist – At list time no spot is open at this selected camp. The waiting list is reviewed weekly and the Staffing Team will be in touch if a spot opens!
Confirmed – You have confirmed your spot for camp!

I have confirmed my schedule, now what?

Once you have confirmed your schedule, you will receive directions to complete the onboarding process and a background check.

Does PGC cover travel costs?

PGC does NOT cover transportation costs. However, PGC Basketball does cover all lodging and meals for the duration of the camp.

What kind of camps do you offer?

Residential and day camps. Refer to the next question “Where do I stay during camp” for more information!

Where do I stay during camp?

For overnight residential camps, staff are required to stay on campus in the dorms for the duration of camp.

If you are working at a commuter day camp and you live within 30–35 miles of the camp location, you will stay at home. If you live over 35 miles from the camp location, PGC will pay for lodging.

Will you be adding any more sessions to the schedule?

We may add additional locations as facilities come available. When sessions are added, we notify our PGC community via email. If you don’t receive our emails, you can join our email list here:

What does a typical day working a PGC Day Camp look like?

Day Camp starts with arriving at the gym between 8:15-8:30 AM to check in and greet the athletes before starting at 9 AM. We’ll spend the majority of the day on the court, with two classroom sessions and a 45-minute lunch at noon.

As a basket instructor, you’ll lead your group through new concepts and game-like situations. In the classroom, it’s important to model ideal student behavior—staying focused, asking questions, and engaging in group activities.

The day wraps up at 4 PM, followed by a brief staff meeting to recap and prepare for the next day.

What does a typical day working a PGC Residential Camp look like?

A typical day at a residential session is full of energy and growth. It starts with a class session where athletes dive into film, basketball fundamentals, leadership, and confidence. Then, it’s all about action on the court, where you’ll guide athletes through skills and game-like situations.

In between sessions, you will have time to get off your feet during meal supervision and staff meetings!

After the final module, you’ll continue providing world-class oversight in the dorms to ensure an exceptional experience. The day usually runs from 8 AM to 9 or 10 PM, depending on the course.

My first PGC experience has changed the entire trajectory of my coaching career and my life. I have been around the game my entire life and have never experienced such intellect and poise. Marke Freeman and the PGC staff explode with knowledge, work ethic, and gratitude. I am honored to have listened and learned from such inspiring individuals from a phenomenal organization.
