  • Today’s Monday Mindset: How to Build Self-Control

Presented by: Mano Watsa, President of PGC Basketball Camps

    Do you lack self-control?

I’ve got a simple strategy you can put into practice to help you build your self-control muscle.

Building your self-discipline will help you feel better about yourself. It’ll grow your self-confidence and you’ll accomplish more.

Here’s what you need to do when you’re in the midst of scrolling mindlessly through social media or you’re binging on junk food, just use your name. There’s power in your name. Talk to yourself, actually say the words out loud. “Stop it, Watsa.” Talking to yourself will help you to take action.

It’ll wake you up – out of your mindless activity and when you have better things to do.

Use your name. Tell yourself what to do. See if you can do once a day every day.

Catch yourself at any point in time with something that you need to stop. Talk to yourself and stop. Build that muscle, and as you build that muscle, it’ll become stronger.

You can stop yourself earlier and earlier until you get to a point where you can stop yourself before you even start, because you’ll stop yourself at the thought of it.

When you go to reach for that food, when you go to grab your phone – you’ll say stop it and eventually you won’t even begin in the first place.

That’s how you build your discipline.

That’s how you build your self-control, and that’s your Monday Mindset.
