On taking the blame, leading a group of one, and withstanding the heat
November 7 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
Get in the habit of taking the blame yourself.
Too many times in a game a pass is thrown, the receiver misses it, and they tell the passer to get the ball higher next time. Then the passer says, “Catch the ball!” and they both run back on defense angry at each other.
What an immensely different feeling to miss a pass and hear the passer say, “Sorry, bad pass.” And what a feeling for that passer to hear, “No, I should’ve had it.”
This kind of attitude, of taking the blame yourself, does wonders for the team morale and will help win you games.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
“The smallest group you will ever lead is you, a group of one. That is the most important one you will ever lead. If you do that well, then you will earn the right to lead even bigger and stronger groups.”
– John C. Maxwell
LIFE PRINCIPLE
“You know the old saying, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” Well, if you always get out as soon as the kitchen gets hot, your life will end up half-baked.”
– Mark Goulston
