The Hook Pass
– Become an Unstoppable Point Guard –
To be a next-level point guard, you must develop your ability to pass off a dribble with accuracy and precision.
Most players are taught to pass in line with where they look, specifically the chest pass. The best point guards recognize the limitations of a chest pass and perfect a hook pass with their right and left hand.
Join PGC+ Director Tyler Coston, as breaks down the how-to for hook passes and the benefits of developing this skill.
KEYS TO A HOOK PASS
- Form: Arm fully extended above the head and snap the ball down
- Usage: Over and around defensive hands without having to use a ball fake
- Emphasis: On-time and on-target
- Goal: Pass with either right or left hand
When you have the ability to use a hook pass, the opportunity to reach open teammates grows exponentially. Defenses will be unable to read the pass in your eyes and open shots will become more available. You need to be the type of point guard who can make passes on-time and on-target.
