On Game Point Mentality, Feedback, and Appreciation
Apr. 28 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
You know that moment in pickup when it’s 2-1 & no one cares about defense?
Then, it’s tied up at game point & everyone turns into a floor-slapping defensive ninja warrior constantly yelling, “1 STOP.”
Yeah, be that defender with game-point mentality — not just some of the time, — but ALL the time.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
Deliver feedback with emotional constancy and composed neutrality. Coaches often think giving highly emotional feedback makes them a better coach. We believe it shows high expectations, but diverts players attention from feedback. Intensity works best as a variation from the norm.

LIFE PRINCIPLE
There are few people in the world — regardless of how important they are — who are not moved by a sincere note of appreciation or thanks, or by a word of recognition. The great athletes not only appreciate the applause of fans, they absolutely depend on it. They need — and often refer to — the positive letters they have received.
