    BASKETBALL TIP
    FLEET = “FLoored fEET.”

    Never leave your feet on defense. Not even to block a pass, not even to block a shot. For every pass you block by jumping, two will get by you, for every shot you block, twice you will foul unnecessarily.

    A great leaper might be permitted to jump occasionally, but then again a great leaper might just be the one who needs this rule more than anyone. Because great leapers have the tendency to want to show off their leaping ability, consequently they are frequently in the air and not in good defensive position.

    By staying on the floor, you stay FLEET, always ready to move, ready to respond immediately to each new position of the ball.

    LEADERSHIP LESSON
    “I think leadership comes from integrity – that you do whatever you ask others to do.

    I think there are non-obvious ways to lead. Just by providing a good example as a parent, a friend, a neighbor makes it possible for other people to see better ways to do things.

    Leadership does not need to be a dramatic, fist in the air and trumpets blaring, activity.”

    – Scott Berkun

    LIFE PRINCIPLE
    “Doing hard things is how we exercise our bodies, our minds, and our faith. Small hard things are the individual repetitions — like a single push-up. They are seemingly insignificant by themselves but guaranteed to get results over time.”

    – Alex Harris

    Players often fail to realize that fouls are errors. Not just because five of them will put you on the bench, but because they allow mediocre players to score points on uncontested 15-foot shots.
