  • Today’s Monday Mindset: Build Better Habits

To kick off the New Year, if you want to improve your habits, here are three things you got to do.

    1. Start small

So often people have lofty goals to kick off the new year. “I’m going to work out every single day”, and then they fail after a couple weeks.

No, instead start small, really small. Just commit to putting on your running shoes every single morning when you get out of bed. And what you’ll find is you’ll be far more likely to exercise or go for a walk or go for a run.

    2. Habit stack.

James Clear’s bestselling book, Atomic Habits. Says that the easiest way to develop a habit is to stack it onto another habit.

So every morning I go out and get first light on my eyes and get outside. And while I’m outside, I stretch two habits joined together.

When I brush my teeth in the morning and at night, I do calf raises at the same time, stacking one habit onto another.

Easiest way to develop a habit is to build on another habit you already have.

    3. Reduce temptations.

If you’re tempted to look at your phone right up until the time you go to sleep, and as soon as you wake up, you’re back on your phone again.

That’ll kill the development of positive, good habits and not good for your life.

That’s why I keep my phone in an entirely different room in the kitchen so that my last half an hour before bed and first 20 to 30 minutes when I wake up, I’m not on my phone.

Easiest way to develop better habits is to remove the temptation. If you’re tempted by chips or cookies or soda drinks or whatever it is, don’t buy it.

Don’t let it be in your house where you live. Remove the temptation.

Do those three things, start small, habit stack and remove temptations. That’ll help you to develop better habits in 2026.

That’s my challenge and that’s your Monday Mindset.
