Today’s Monday Mindset: How to Stop an Argument
How often do you say to somebody, “You’re right.” It’s easy to say you’re right when you’re in a good place with them.
But what about when you’re frustrated? What about when things are tense, or you’re even angry, or in the midst of an argument? Can you say, “You’re right” – and say it sincerely, not sarcastically?
Of course, it requires you to not try to prove them wrong, to not try to find the hole in their argument by saying, “Ah, gotcha. That wasn’t right.”
No. You do the opposite. You actually listen to find out what is true about what they’re saying. Something is probably true, and then you go find it, and then you call it out and say:
“You’re right. You are so right about that.”
It’s hard to do, but that’s a sign of maturity when you can do it. See if you can put that into practice. Not only will it change your perspective, but it will disarm them as well and reduce the frustration significantly, and you’ll have a better relationship because of it.
So put that into practice: You’re right. You’re so right.
That’s my challenge and that’s your Monday Mindset.
