On Home-run Plays, Responsibility, and Sinking Ships
Dec. 09 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
Adopt a “singles and doubles” philosophy.
- Less home-run plays. More smart plays.
- Play under control
- Make the next right pass
- Take the on-balance, in-range shot
- Space the floor
- Go off 2
The turnaround fadeaway looks cool but doesn’t help your team win.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
“The responsibility principle:
If things aren’t going well, you have one person to blame— yourself.
Somehow, you haven’t communicated well enough or explained clearly enough or taught convincingly enough what it is you want.”
– Dick Devenzio
LIFE PRINCIPLE
“An entire sea of water can’t sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. Similarly, the negativity of the world can’t put you down unless you allow it to get inside.”
– Goi Nasu
