    You don’t need Luka Dončić’s size, but you must steal his eyes. We break down the habit of “scanning”—checking the floor east and west before the catch, during the dribble, and at the end of a drive. Developing broad external vision allows you to map the floor, manipulate defenders, and make high-percentage reads to open teammates before the defense even realizes they are out of position.

    You can’t just yell at a player to “keep your eyes up” and expect results. As coaches, we have to purposefully create environments that demand vision. We’ll explore how to design small-sided constraints and specific practice habits that force your athletes to scan early, anticipate defensive leverage, and independently process the game at a much higher speed.
