  • Today’s Monday Mindset: Keep on Digging | Part 2

It’s nighttime here and if you haven’t watched last week’s Monday Mindset, this video is not going to make sense, so go back and watch last week’s Monday Mindset called Keep Digging.

Because it’s now nighttime, I’m here with my two boys who I mentioned in the previous video, and we’re back.

I didn’t find the pipe in the morning, but we’ve been digging tonight, and we found the pipe. I’m not sure if you’re going to be able to see it here. I can’t tell if you can see it down there, but we kept on going and are pretty happy to have found the pipe, even though it was morning and night, but we did it.

And the great Winston Churchill said, “Success consists of going from one failure to the next, without losing enthusiasm,” and one of the things we didn’t do is lose enthusiasm for the cause.

Anytime you’re persevering on something, whatever it is, it’s easy to get frustrated when you’re just experiencing failure after failure.

And in fact, when I stopped this morning, it turned out I had dug a trench, six, seven feet long through the frozen ground. And, it turned out I was just a few inches short and when we came back tonight, we found it really quickly. We could have just given up altogether, but we didn’t. We stuck with it.

My challenge to you is to not only be able to keep on digging, in whatever it is in your life, but to go beyond that.

Can you not give time, energy, and thought to the frustration, the discouragement, or the disappointment and to actually do it joyfully. We didn’t lose even though we were digging in the freezing cold. We didn’t lose enthusiasm. We kept our spirits high. We continued to laugh through it all. Even when I was by myself, I just stayed upbeat.

I think that requires a mindset, that requires mental toughness to be able to persevere and persevere in good spirits.

See if you can, the next time you’re going through a challenge, not give in to frustration or anger, dropping F-bombs and cursing up a storm. See if you can keep a mindset of just putting every ounce of effort and energy and thought into your next best action. “What’s next? We didn’t find it. We didn’t resolve this. We didn’t get it done, didn’t figure it out. What’s next?”

And if you can do that and if you can do that joyfully, then you’ll live out Winston Churchill’s quote, “Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”

    That’s your Monday Mindset.
