On going at your defender, cutting the cleverness, and asking for what you want
July 18 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
Go at defenders to get free.
By going straight at your defender, you “paralyze” or freeze them until you decide which way you want to go, just a few feet away from them.
You can win a ten-foot race against anyone when you have a running start and your opponent must start from a turned-around, stopped position.
This is precisely the case when you go at a defender and then veer off at the last possible moment.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
“Complexity confuses. Abstraction alienates. Length loses. You can unite people around a common understanding of an important idea or update by writing in short, direct sentences and by losing the clever insider-isms or fancy clauses.”
― Jim Vandehei
LIFE PRINCIPLE
“The thing is, most people don’t ask for what they want. They wish for it, they make “suggestions” and drop hints, they hope. But the simple fact of business is that only by asking do you receive what you want. No ASK? No GET. That applies to every part of life. Seriously, every part.”
– Noah Kagan
