On Shot Selection, Encouragement, and Cooking Rice
Dec. 23 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
To understand your team’s shot selection, use this scale with your team.
9 = An easy, uncontested lay-up
7 = The ideal shot at the right time and right place
5 = A ‘so-so’ shot
3 = A bad shot that’s off-balance or out-of-range
1 = A shot with nearly no chance of going in
LEADERSHIP LESSON
When is it okay to encourage?
Anytime. Always. Now. Tomorrow. It’s always useful to encourage. And to go a step further. If you don’t encourage, you’re failing to contribute to a significant aspect of team building.
Don’t underestimate the power you have. Many don’t show outwardly the effect it has on them — how it lifts their spirits & inspires them to put out extra effort. But know this:
Few remain untouched by it.
Often, the ones who seem least touched are those who need it most.
LIFE PRINCIPLE
Talk does not cook rice.
