On controlling nervousness, staying motivated, and having higher standards
August 22 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
Before the first game of the season, or before a big game or any game, you are likely to feel nervous. What matters is not that you feel nervous, nor that you find some way to hide it.
You will probably control your nervousness better and be sure that it helps rather than hurts your performance by enjoying your nervousness instead of trying to hide from it.
Regardless of whether you succeed or fail, you have to enjoy the opportunity and all that goes with it.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
“You’re a leader. It’s your job to keep your passion hot. Do whatever you have to do, read whatever you have to read, go wherever you have to go to stay fired up. And don’t apologize to anybody.”
– Bill Hybels
LIFE PRINCIPLE
“If all you see are average people, you will end up with average standards. But average standards aren’t going to get you where you want to go. Standards become habits, and habits become outcomes. Few people realize that exceptional outcomes are almost always achieved by people with higher-than-average standards.”
– Shane Parrish
