Learn how to build consistent, game-ready shooting rhythm.
1. Finding Your Spot
Players begin by selecting their favorite spot on the floor — where they are most efficient, effective, and most likely to receive shots in their team’s offense.
- Choose the spot where you’re most confident.
- Get there quickly and get set.
From this spot, the athlete has exactly two minutes to make as many shots as possible.
2. Focus on the Target Eye
Throughout the drill, players should stay locked in on their target eye, consistently attaching their vision to their target on the rim. This helps eliminate distractions and improves shooting focus.
- Stay attached to the target eye.
- Find the “feel-good” shot repeatedly.
3. Footwork & Comfort
PGC emphasizes allowing players to use the most comfortable footwork. While multiple techniques are taught, elite shooters make shots because they prioritize comfort first.
- Use the footwork that feels natural.
- Complete your footwork before each shot.
4. Communication & Rebounding
Communication is key — shooters should call for the ball every rep. Rebounders also develop skills by keeping the ball from hitting the floor and developing a nose for the ball.
- Call the passer’s name every rep.
- Rebounders aim to prevent the ball from ever touching the ground.
5. Goal Setting During the Drill
While shooting for two minutes, athletes should:
- Count total makes.
- Track streaks.
- Maintain focus on the rim every rep.
Markie encourages setting a goal like making a certain number of shots in a row, depending on the player’s skill level.
6. Finishing the Drill
As the timer winds down, players should stay locked and loaded, focusing on quick and efficient footwork. The drill concludes with a push to finish strong in the final seconds.
Final Thoughts
This drill is all about building rhythm and preparing athletes to perform confidently in games. Markie calls it the Green Light: Use It or Lose It drill — a proven way to help players get buckets consistently.
