Making Mom Over-the-Moon Ecstatic
Dalton Peterson, like most young players, used to struggle immensely with his confidence on the court…
Whether it was making the right reads…
Having the confidence to take the open shot…
Or playing under control…
Dalton felt completely lost.
And to make matters worse, he was falling victim to the fabricated story in his head that his performance in games was tied to who he was as a person.
“If I don’t play well tonight, I must be doing something wrong” he’d think to himself…
A dangerous mindset to say the least.
And one that can quickly set a kid up to fail in many realms of life if not caught at a young age.
Luckily for Dalton, his Mom stumbled upon a PGC Basketball Camp in Colorado and after doing her due-diligence, she decided to take her shot and ship him off for one week to find out what it was all about.
When Dalton returned home she was very confused by one of their first interactions around the house…
The conversation went something like this:
Dalton: “Hey Mom, can I help you with the dishes?”
Dalton’s Mom: “What’s wrong with you? Are you okay?”
Dalton: “Yeah, I’m good! I just want to help you and do stuff around the house.”
Dalton’s Mom: Speechless
Can you imagine?
Your college-aged son or daughter coming home and wanting to spend time with you while helping out around the house.
Sure sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Anyway, when we asked Dalton to sum up what was triggered inside of him while attending PGC he said…
“I learned that basketball is so much more than just a game and that I’m so much more than just a basketball player. I now know who I want to be as a man and as a person.”
This was a 180-degree turn for Dalton.
Thus his Mom wondering what the heck happened to him at camp.
And once Dalton discovered that no matter how he played in games, basketball would not define who he was as a person, his confidence soared.
Of course there were significant improvements to his basketball game too.
After just 5 days, he understood how to “Think the Game” better than 99% of players and as a result, his playing time, points per game and rebounds all increased and he went on to become the Team Captain of his basketball team at Chadron State College in Nebraska.
But more important than all of the tangible basketball stats and titles…
Dalton’s ability and confidence to lead himself and his teammates to perform at their best, can only be described as truly remarkable.
And I think it almost goes without saying…
His Mom was more than a little thrilled at the byproduct of all his new skills, habits and mindset – helping out around the house!
These are the kinds of stories that motivate us to enhance our PGC curriculum year after year, to help improve the lives of our student-athletes and their family.

Life Skills Tied With Basketball
Love! Love! Love PGC!!! This camp was just another reminder of how special it is to reconnect with your “why” of doing basketball. It teaches you how to be a good person and an amazing player. They teach you life skills tied with basketball. It has taught me the importance of taking an opportunity and valuing the potential of what it could bring of meeting new people and new coaches styles. I am appreciative and love PGC for everything they do bringing back joy to play the game of basketball.
