Today’s Monday Mindset: How to Set Yourself up for Success
Today, I want to share with you how you can set yourself up for success in anything.
It’s a really simple practice of setting up your environment around you so that being successful is easy and being unsuccessful actually is hard and takes work.
I’ll give you an illustration and then I’ll share with you a personal example for my own life.
If you want to eat healthier, the way you set yourself up for success is buying groceries that are healthy so that your fridge and your pantry are stocked full of healthy items. So when you go to grab something out of the fridge, what do you have to grab? Well, in your environment, at your disposal, you have healthy options.
Now I wrestled with this in my own life with my morning routines. Here’s the personal example, even though I attempt to be self-disciplined to start my day slowly in a number of different ways, there’s one or two things I really struggled with. What I realized was I wasn’t actually setting up my environment to help me be successful. It was working against me because I had to go out of my way to actually do some of my morning routine.
So instead, what I decided to do was I brought my reading materials and my journal upstairs just outside of my bedroom. I have them right here as I record this. Now, the moment I come out of my bedroom each morning, there’s a chair here and I sit down and have my time to do my journaling. I write the things I’ve accomplished in the previous day, the things I’m grateful for, the things I’m focused on in the upcoming day. I have my ancient texts and scriptures that I read. I have books that I read. And then finally, I have a thank you card every day that I write.
In other words, I’ve made it easy for myself to win because I’ve set up my environment to be successful. When it was hard, when I had to go out of my way to do those things, I left it to chance and quite often I didn’t do it. But for the past few months, I’ve done this every single day because it was on my path right out of my bedroom before I went downstairs.
If you want to win more, set yourself up for success by setting up your environment to make it easy for you to be successful. Do that and you’ll experience greater levels of success every single day.
And that’s your Monday Mindset.
