Start Small

Today’s Monday Mindset: Start Small
I’m here in Wichita, Kansas. This is the first day of our summer camps. I’m helping to kick it off. In just 15 or 20 minutes, there’s going to be countless players and coaches coming in.
Our staff are putting the final touches on the session to make sure everything’s ready here. And I can’t help but think back to my very first camp, 31 years ago. I was 15 years old and we had eight kids show up in my parents’ backyard for that first camp that I ran.
I realized, looking back on it now, I started really small. And then each and every camp that I put on in my parents’ backyard, I just gave my all, I just gave my all to it.
Now 31 years later will impact over 12,000 players, nearly a thousand coaches this summer at over 110 camps across north America. And this wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t start small 31 years ago, if PGC founder, Dick DeVenzio, didn’t start small when he started PGC.
Whatever it is you want to accomplish, you have to be willing to start small. You give your all, you pour yourself into it, and then you just watch the compound interest of time. You won’t believe what can be accomplished over a long period of time.
We overestimate what can be done in a few months or a year and underestimate what can be accomplished in a decade.
So my challenge to you is, whatever it is that you want to develop, whatever it is you want to accomplish, be willing to start small and give your all.
That’s your Monday Mindset.
