Train The 6 Key Shots | Basketball Shooting Drill
This drill emphasizes transitioning quickly between spots, shooting off the sprint, off the dribble, and from different areas of the court while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. Players challenge themselves by tracking makes, competing against their previous rounds, and simulating game-like fatigue.
1. Sprint Catch-and-Shoot
Players sprint to the top of the key or wing, catch the ball, and immediately take a catch-and-shoot shot.
- Improves explosiveness into shots
- Teaches quick footwork and balance
- Simulates fast breaks and transition scoring
2. Off-the-Dribble Shot
Shooters attack the basket from the wing, using one dribble or crossover before pulling up for a mid-range or three-point shot.
- Develops pull-up shooting ability
- Reinforces footwork under movement
- Prepares players for game-speed decisions
3. Curl Shot
Players sprint around a designated path (curl) to receive a pass and immediately shoot, practicing rhythm and positioning.
- Enhances movement without the ball
- Builds timing and hand-eye coordination
- Teaches reading defenders and spacing
4. Exit Corner Three
After each shot, players move to the corner for an immediate three-point catch-and-shoot.
- Trains transition shooting from different court angles
- Encourages quick resets between shots
- Simulates game-like corner opportunities
5. Free Throw
The drill concludes with a free throw to practice finishing the sequence and maintaining focus under fatigue.
- Reinforces mental focus after high-intensity movement
- Teaches consistency under pressure
- Integrates shooting rhythm and mechanics
6. Repetition on Opposite Side
Players repeat the sequence from the opposite side of the court to train symmetry and adaptability.
- Improves balance and coordination on both sides
- Enhances shot variety from all positions
- Prepares for in-game variability
Overall, the Big Six Shooting Drill builds shooting skill, adaptability, and stamina. By incorporating sprinting, dribble moves, catch-and-shoot, curl patterns, corner threes, and free throws, players gain the ability to score efficiently in multiple game scenarios while maintaining proper form.
