  • Today’s Monday Mindset: When You Get in A Funk

Got a question for you today, and that is…

Do you ever feel like you’re in a rut or in a funk? Or you’re just not living out the habits that will position you to be your best self?

Maybe it’s just not eating healthy or not working out and exercising each day… or if you’re a student, maybe it’s just get getting caught up on your phones instead of getting school work done. Or if you’re an athlete, not getting the training in that you know you need to get in to get better.

There are so many different things that can get us off track. And one of the things we often do is beat ourselves up about what hasn’t happened. And then we look at those who just seem so rock solid in terms of their self-discipline, and we think they’re amazing and we can never be like them.

    But we can improve.

If you start off though, with “I should, I really should eat healthier, I really should work out more,” you’re never going to get there because shoulds are external, and you want it to be internal to you. And so I like to think of things in terms of get-to’s rather than have-to’s or shoulds.

I got out of my routine the last several weeks and I realized last night, “Do you know what? I’m going to put all that behind me, and tomorrow’s a new day. I’m going to make it my best day that I’ve had in a really long time.” And I just chose one thing and I said, “Okay, I’m going to start small. I’m going to make sure I get my workout in.”

And that led to me doing several other pieces in my morning routine as well. And as a result, I’ve completed everything that I wanted to do to help position me to have an amazing day.

And so my simple challenge to you is to start small, let go of the past, and finally, don’t let anything be a should or a have-to. Make it a get-to. And when you realize that every day you get the opportunity to eat healthy, or you get the opportunity to learn and get better at something or to work out and exercise, if you make those things get-to’s, not have-to’s or shoulds, you’ll be well on your way to getting out of a funk, changing your habits and becoming everything you’re meant to be.

Speaking of becoming everything you’re meant to be, if you want to reach your full potential as a basketball player, check out our PGC Basketball Camps.

    And that’s your Monday Mindset.
