Master The Kobe Step
Kobe Bryant excelled at his ability to score against any sort of defense. Great offensive players know how to move the defense (and make them pay.)
Join PGC Director Tyler Coston, as he walks through the secrets of the Kobe step to score on bigger, faster and more athletic defenders.
The Kobe Step
The Kobe step is a front pivot cross step. This dynamic pivot will make the defender move and open up a straight line drive (with your strong hand) to score. The keys to getting your defender to move is:
1. Fake slow and let the defense react
2. Protect ball on shoulder or chest
Level 2: Rocker Kobe Step
If your defender is playing strong defense, after you Kobe Step, rock back into a pump fake. This will raise the defense so you can blow by and drive to the basket.
Level 3: Spin & Blast
Great defenders will start to anticipate your Kobe Step. As your defender presses, spin and blast to the basket. Make sure your foot goes down at the same time as your first dribble off the spin so you don’t travel.
With the Kobe Step, you will be able to respond to the defense to open up scoring opportunities by making your defender move.
