  • Today’s Monday Mindset: Say Yes

I’m here at this wedding and in just a short time, I’m going to be performing the wedding ceremony for one of our PGC directors and his fiance. When they asked me, I had to share with them, I’m not actually an ordained minister or a pastor, so I can’t actually marry you. But they said, we have somebody who will be there, who will actually do the official signing and declaration and you can do the entire ceremony. I gulped at first because I’ve never done this before. Naturally I knew there was going to be a learning curve. I knew I was going to probably feel really nervous going into it.

Anytime you do something you’ve never done before, say yes.

Now here we are just a short time away from actually performing the ceremony. Am I nervous? You better believe I am. Who wouldn’t be? Now, there’s a lot less nervousness when you know you’re prepared because confidence comes from preparation. I’ve done my work to be prepared but I’m still feeling nervous. Anytime you’re feeling nervous, just embrace the nervousness, welcome nervousness, because you know it’s a sign that it’s something important to you and that it matters and that you care.

Most importantly, my Monday Mindset for you today is simply this: When you get asked to do something that’s going to stretch you instead of just pushing it off and saying no – because it’s going to be uncomfortable or because it’s going to scare the heck out of you – say yes.

Say yes and allow yourself to be stretched by the different opportunities and different things that life, friends, family and others bring your way.

Well, the ceremony just ended 10 or 15 minutes ago and it went so well. The couple was absolutely radiant and it was just a beautiful service to be a part of. I’m so glad I said yes. It was just such a privilege to be a part of their special day.

My challenge to you today is to say yes to the opportunities that come your way.
