On racing through the race track, the humble leader, and taking a leap
BASKETBALL TIP
The “race track” is a name for the area between the two three-point arcs. It is the area where nothing good ever happens on offense.
To do good things in basketball, you have to be where the action is. That means spending as little time as possible in the midcourt area.
Players tend to trot through that area and rest there and watch the game from there, which is exactly why it is named the race track.
If you want to be a good player, you need to race through there.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
“A humble person is more concerned about what is right than about being right, about acting on good ideas than having the ideas, about embracing new truth than defending outdated position, about building the team than exalting self, about recognizing contribution than being recognized for making it.”
– Stephen M.R. Covey
LIFE PRINCIPLE
“What’s important is that you make the leap. Jump high and hard with intention and heart. Pay no mind to the vision that the commission made up. It’s up to you to make your life. Take what you have and stack it up like a tower of teetering blocks. Build your dream around that.”
– Cheryl Strayed
