On the skill of hustling, responding wisely, and failing boldly
October 3 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TIP
The hustle-habit is not something you turn off and on. You think you can. But just by coincidence, the player not in the habit of hustling constantly will let down sometime in the big game and some other player with a hustling habit will get the best of them.
If you plan to out-hustle people in games, you better plan on out-hustling them in practice, day after day, in-season and off-season.
Hustling is a skill just like hitting a target or slicing a drop shot. You make it a part-time thing and it will desert you when you need it most.
LEADERSHIP LESSON
“Respond from the center of the hurricane, rather than reacting from the chaos of the storm.”
– George Mumford
LIFE PRINCIPLE
“There are two kinds of failure.
The first comes from never trying out your ideas because you are afraid, or because you are waiting for the perfect time. This kind of failure you can never learn from, and such timidity will destroy you.
The second kind comes from a bold and venturesome spirit. If you fail in this way, the hit that you take to your reputation is greatly outweighed by what you learn.
Repeated failure will toughen your spirit and show you with absolute clarity how things must be done.”
– Robert Greene
