On Mental Toughness, Getting What You Want, and How to Succeed in Life
Nov. 17 | The 3-Point Play
BASKETBALL TEACHING
Mental toughness is one of the most important ingredients for success in sports, and it can be developed like any other skill.
Want to improve your mental toughness?
Make a conscious effort to be the person your teammates would choose under pressure.
The more you convince them, the more you will convince yourself. The biggest problem usually isn’t a lack of courage or toughness or intelligence. Usually it’s something more like laziness or selfishness, the tendency to complain or to think about your own problems instead of developing pride in toughness, in being a non-complainer.
A lot of it is focus more than actual strength.

LIFE LESSON
“If you didn’t get what you want, it’s a sign that you did not seriously want it, or you tried to bargain over the price.”
– Rudyard Kipling
EDUCATIONAL TIP
Foolish students mumble that some ‘A student’ is a brown-noser for talking to the teacher. Sadly, they haven’t learned what life (or school) is all about…yet.
The sooner you wise up and understand that you need the help of those above you to succeed in life, the sooner you’ll achieve your goals.

Players often fail to realize that fouls are errors. Not just because five of them will put you on the bench, but because they allow mediocre players to score points on uncontested 15-foot shots.
