  • Today’s Monday Mindset: 3 Steps to Solve ANY Problem

Life is full of challenges. Whether you’re a parent trying to support your child, a coach guiding a team, or a student striving for success, we all encounter obstacles that seem daunting at first. The good news? There’s a simple, three-step approach you can use to solve any problem and turn challenges into opportunities for growth. Let’s break it down.

    Step 1: Define the Problem

The first step to solving any problem is to define it clearly. What exactly are you trying to solve? Vague problems lead to vague solutions, so take a moment to pinpoint what’s causing the issue. Write it down if you need to.

For example, if your basketball team is struggling to close out tight games, the problem might not just be “we’re losing.” It could be more specific, like “we’re making poor decisions under pressure in the final minutes.” By identifying the core issue, you’ve already taken a critical step toward finding a solution.

Step 2: Find Someone Who Has Solved It

Here’s a truth that can save you time and frustration: nearly every problem you’ll face has been solved by someone before you. The key is to learn from their experience.

Thanks to the internet, you can tap into a wealth of knowledge. Blogs, videos, books, and podcasts are just a few resources where experts share their strategies. For the struggling basketball team, this might mean watching videos on late-game strategies, reading interviews with top coaches, or studying game footage of successful teams.

No matter the problem, there’s likely a roadmap out there. Your job is to find it.

Step 3: Implement What They Did

Knowledge is powerful, but it’s action that creates change. Once you’ve identified a solution, it’s time to put it into practice. Be intentional and committed to following through.

Let’s go back to the basketball example. After learning effective late-game strategies, you might incorporate specific drills into practice sessions to simulate high-pressure situations. Over time, your team will develop the skills and confidence needed to perform better when it counts.

    Real-Life Application

This three-step framework isn’t just for sports—it works in every area of life. Personally, I’ve used this approach throughout my athletic career and now in my professional life. By defining the problem, finding someone who’s solved it, and applying their strategies, I’ve overcome challenges I never thought I could tackle. And you can too.

    Your Challenge

This week, take one problem you’re facing and apply these three steps:

    1. Define the problem. Get clear on what you need to solve.
    2. Find someone who’s solved it. Seek out their guidance.
    3. Implement their solution. Take action and make progress.

Remember, every challenge is an opportunity to grow and improve. With this mindset, there’s no problem you can’t solve.

Here’s to making this week a winning one—on and off the court. That’s your Monday Mindset!
