  • The Floater, Pull Up and 3-Point Shooting Drill is a comprehensive ladder drill designed to develop versatility, rhythm, and confidence for shooters in different game situations. This drill challenges players to combine multiple shot types while moving across different floor quadrants and maintaining focus under time pressure.

Players begin in designated quadrants—right wing, right corner, left wing, left corner, or slot areas—and must make a sequence of three shots to complete the quadrant. The drill emphasizes floater accuracy, pull-up shooting, and catch-and-shoot 3-point shots, providing a realistic game-like progression from inside to perimeter scoring. It also encourages discipline, confidence, and consistency, as missing a shot requires the player to start over in the sequence.

    Ladder Shooting Drill: Quadrant Progression

Each quadrant requires completing three consecutive shots in the following order:

    • Floater: Start in the paint or slot, focusing on finishing high with proper touch and arc
    • One-Dribble Pull Up: Move behind the three-point line, incorporate a jab step or shot fake, and execute a pull-up jumper
    • Catch-and-Shoot 3: Finish the quadrant with a perimeter shot, emphasizing shooting form, rhythm, and consistency

    Drill Guidelines & Tips

    • Players must make all three shots in a row to complete the quadrant
    • If a shot is missed, restart the sequence from the floater to reinforce consistency
    • Focus on footwork, balance, and target lock for every shot type
    • Time yourself for 2 minutes per session and aim to complete as many quadrants as possible
    • Use a rebounder to maintain pace, simulate game pressure, and keep repetitions efficient

This drill trains players to adapt between different scoring opportunities, combining inside floaters, mid-range pull-ups, and perimeter threes. By challenging shooters to complete quadrants under time pressure, it builds confidence, shooting rhythm, and competitive mindset for game situations.
