What Do You Focus On?

Today’s Monday Mindset: What Do You Focus On?
I’m here in Egypt and we’ve been climbing Mount Sinai, on a camel, in the middle of the night with a group of 15. You’re going to hear all sorts of sounds because this is the cafeteria.
We are two-thirds of the way up the mountain and we’ve been climbing for a couple hours. We started at 12:30 at night and we’re going to arrive at the peak just in time for sunrise.
I share all of that because when you wake up at 12:30, most of us have barely gone to sleep and then you come out –and it turns out this is the coldest day of the year in Egypt. It just happens to be below freezing at the top of the mountain. And when you’re missing or lacking sleep, and lacking warmth, it’s easy to focus on those two things.
But my challenge for myself today is to focus on what I have, not focus on what I’m missing because where your attention goes, energy flows.
I just decided right out of the gate that I wasn’t going to focus on the lack of sleep. I wasn’t going to focus on the lack of warmth, although we’re bundled up really well and we’re about to do the final ascent.
The camels can’t go any further, so we walk the last hour. Maybe I’ll be able to get a picture from the top that I’ll include, but where the attention goes, energy flows.
I decided to put my attention on what’s there, not what’s missing.
What’s there was just an amazing view of the stars. And in addition to that, being able to just take in this experience of seeing the stars light up the mountains at night and just having this once in a lifetime experience.
So my challenge to you today is, no matter what your situation is, you can either focus on what’s missing or what you have.
Choose to focus on what you have and when you do that you’ll find that even in the most adverse circumstances – this maybe isn’t one of those most adverse circumstances. This is a once in lifetime experience.
In the midst of adverse circumstances, you’ll be able to make the most of them, if you choose to focus on what you have rather than what’s missing.
And that’s your Monday Mindset.
