Mastering The Shot Fake
“The best shot fakes are simply shots not taken.” – Matt McLeod
To become a great shooter like Steph Curry, Maya Moore, Sue Bird, and JJ Redick, you must have a great shot fake. Here are the two ways you can master your shot fake, today:
1. Become a Better Shooter
The first way to improve your shot fake is to become a better shooter. If you’re not a better shooter, defense will not respect you. Spend time in the gym mastering your shot. Make thousands of shots each week so defense has to close out quicker and respond to your shot fake more regularly.

2. Make it More Believable
There are 3 ways you can make your shot more believable:
1. Eyes to Rim
Every time you catch the ball, get your eyes to the rim so the defense knows you’re thinking about shooting. It will force them to react and open up driving lanes all over the floor.
2. Ball to Chin
After you bring your eyes to the rim, bring the ball to your chin. This should look like the start of your shot.
3. Drop Low and Get Explosive
You can either shoot or drive in either direction.
